Question Bank Progress Tracker
Dear student,
I’ve prepared this tool to monitor my progress through the question banks of my exams and I’d like to share it with you so that it can assist you with your studies. The idea of this tool is simple. It can help you monitor your progress when answering questions. It has been based on CIMA exams and how their questions bank work, but it can be applied to any type of multiple choice test. Please, share it to whom it might be of use.
You can find the tool here below:
How does it work?
It is very easy. You fill in the following data:
- Chapter: the chapter of the module you’re studying
- Test: the name of the test, if it’s different.
- Number of questions: you include the maximum number of questions of the test.
- Weight: this is automatically calculated. It shows the percentage that the test represents in relation with the sum of all questions across all chapters.

Setting difficult level
On the right hand side you have two cells where you can adjust the minimum grade to “pass¨ and the difficulty increase. In the example below, if the test has 6 questions, the maximum number of questions that will show is 5. When you answer correctly 85% of the questions, the difficulty level will increase by adding 5 more questions until the limit is reached. That means in our example that if the test has 6 questions, the maximum number of questions will be 6.

Tracking your progress
After each attempt you fill in the blank columns (the ones named ‘Correct’) the number of correct questions. If you scored the minimum grade, the next round will add these additional questions.

Example of how progress looks like with a minimum grade of 85%:

Calculating odds of passing an exam:
- % of max questions: shows the percentage of total questions in relation to the number of all questions across all chapters.
- % of answered questions: shows all the correct questions of that round.
- Last pass rate Exam: here you have to enter the pass rate (if you know it) or the one you think it is appropriate for you.
- Estimated pass chances: simply multiplies the number of correctly answered questions with the last pass rate exam to give you an estimate of the chances to pass an exam. If the pass rate is 63% your maximum chance will be 63% even if you score 100% of the questions correctly. Of course, this doesn’t have to be your case as there are many other variables to take into account, but this can give you a certain sense of control.

Adding more rounds
To add more rounds, simply copy the columns to add an additional round. The formulas will be picked up by the new cells so that you can continue monitoring your progress through your studies.

I hope you liked the tool. Please leave your feedback or let me know how I can improve it so that it can better help you in your studies by using this form.
Good luck in your exams!
