In business I hear many stories. The ones that mainly catch my attention are those of businesses not taking, let’s say, full responsibility or following contracts as they should. Examples could go between employers not paying full salaries, suppliers not completing a job or delaying reparations, companies offering vouchers if you refer them to a client and then ghosting you…
These days I have been asking myself the question, if it’s possible to be profitable by being ethical, or at least, following regulations.
Many companies believe that by tricking customers, employees, suppliers, or other stakeholders to make some extra money is part of the business. I have to say I completely disagree with this mindset.
What many underestimate is the damage to a business reputation when they follow such strategies. While they count extra money in their pockets, the bad press that certain acts bring damage and erode the value of a business.
I have seen employers having difficulties finding talent because of the way the treat employees, companies losing sales due to the loss of trust, among other examples.
Therefore I truly believe that being ethical and following regulations is part of doing business. If you still have some doubts, you may ask yourself the question if you would ever buy again from a business if you felt tricked, or work again gor a client who always pays late.
